Chilworth

The clients for this 800 m² new-build house were keen for it to have a sense of quiet Englishness, rooted in its place. Contemporary in detail, but referencing some of the familiar visual language of its substantial Home Counties neighbours.

The gentle concave curve of the symmetrical entrance elevation hugs the central entrance, allowing the opposite convex elevation of the house to open out in a more informal arrangement to fully address the terraced landscaped gardens that fall away below it.

Internally, the front door opens onto a galleried double-height hallway which on the ground floor separates the formal Reception rooms to the left from the more informal accommodation to the right; and on the first floor separates the principle bedroom suites from the family accommodation.

A secondary entrance, from the car court, provides direct access to the kitchen, the swimming pool wing, and a guest/staff flat.
