New York style loft
Located atop a mid-century commercial building, the glamour of this sophisticated New York style duplex loft apartment is only revealed when you pass through its robust steel entrance door from the workaday concrete communal stairway.
Occupying the top floor of the original building and the wing-roofed penthouse floor added above in the 1990s, our fit-out has reimagined and reconfigured the interior space, creating a master suite with terrace, guest bedroom and media room on the lower floor, and a light-filled open-plan living space and landscaped terraces above.
On this upper level, designed with informal entertaining in mind, a large centrally-located kitchen island anchors the sitting and dining areas to either side, with storage and a ‘butler’s pantry’ tucked out of sight behind making discrete provision for the messier aspects of cooking and clearing away.
Subtle tuning of the 1990s shell has highlighted the primary geometry of the soaring wing roof, quietening down and rationalising the original rather fussy detailing and significantly improving thermal performance. New high performance W20-style double glazing incorporates bi-fold doors opening onto landscaped terraces and also onto new narrow ‘planter balconies’ to both sides of the sitting area, that draw the outside in.
