Banbury Masterplanning

Laing commissioned FORMstudio to carry out masterplanning studies for the regeneration of Banbury railway station and the rundown hinterland area between it and the town centre.

Housing, a commercial/retail district, a hotel and two multi-storey car parks are all components of a plan devised around an enhanced pedestrian route between town and station, exploiting the amenity potential of the two waterways that bisect the historically industrial area.

The proposed redesign of the station includes an additional entrance and parking on the far side of the tracks, providing direct access for the residents of the adjacent cattle market redevelopment and for commuters driving in from the surrounding countryside, reducing unnecessary traffic movements across the restricted road bridge and congestion in the town centre.
