Natural light is key to Putney House

Natural light is key to Putney House

As the construction of FORMstudio’s new-build house off Putney Hill progresses, it is now possible to get a sense of the light and airy feel that the finished house will have, despite it being built right up to two of the site boundaries. Daylight is brought deep into the plan through a series of skylights above the kitchen, staircase, Guest WC and bedroom, whilst front and rear lightwells allow natural light down into the basement rooms, minimising the energy demand of artificial lighting.

At the front of the house, full height windows on both ground and first floor look out onto the private walled garden that will be reinstated upon completion of the works by our keen-gardener client, who stored many of the plants off-site for the duration of the project. At the rear, the first floor is set back, allowing carefully positioned windows to frame views of the nearby church spire nestling in the lush greenery behind the house.
